This “broken heart” of smileys is a belated June 29th Hearty Friday post.

Mostly recovered from Jet Lag
It’s been four days since my return flight from Washington to Maryland, and I’m finally (mostly) recovered from jet lag. Amanda claims not to suffer from jet lag due to time changes of less than 5 hours, but I don’t know how. It affects me pretty strongly, and the worst is always the West to East direction. Of course, Seattle to Baltimore is only half as bad as Baltimore to London. That was completely awful, and I don’t know how so many people can do it so often. Maybe they’re like Amanda.
I was free-running for a few days, not using my checklists and so on. In fact, half the time I could barely do more than lay on the floor and take a nap. Things should be returning to normal now. I know I keep saying that, but one of these times it will be true.
I missed the last Hearty Friday, so I’ll post one soon, once again off-schedule.
Ease of Install: Vista 0, FC6 1
Our new post-doc requested both Vista and Fedora Core on his workstation. I started off with Vista. First, it didn’t see any disks. Then, I provided it with drivers for the RAID controller, and it saw the two volumes. However, it refused to install on either, saying they “weren’t suitable” for Vista. Finally, I had to un-hook the disks from the hardware RAID controller, and hook them straight up to the system board.
Contrast this with Fedora Core 6 installation: it finds both volumes, and installs onto either just fine.
Yet, FC6 is free, Linux is supposedly more difficult to install, and Vista Ultimate costs an arm and a leg.
I am annoyed.
ADDENDUM: The Vista install just hung, hard. Good job guys.
Back from Seattle
I have returned from my wedding reception in Seattle, hence the hiatus. I will return to blogging shortly.
Early Hearty Friday
I’ll be traveling to Seattle today, so Hearty Friday comes early this week.
