I miss NOLA already.

Visiting St.Louis
I’m visiting St.Louis for the rest of this week to work with our collaborators on acquiring some OCT data. We’re imaging a right-ventricular free wall from a rabbit heart, on the endocardial side, as shown in this picture:
After we were done with work for the day, I took a walk over to the apartment building where most of our lab lived during the hurricane. It was really surreal. On the one hand, all of the Katrina Evacuation, the flooding, the return to New Orleans, etc… feels like a dream. Sometimes I almost believe it didn’t happen, though of course I know it did. And yet, here’s a reminder:
We had some good times during our short stay there, and it helped to build camaraderie and cohesion in the lab. We had the whole top floor of that building (two floors) and once even made use of the roof. Shh, don’t tell Quadrangle Housing.
Mostly recovered from Jet Lag
It’s been four days since my return flight from Washington to Maryland, and I’m finally (mostly) recovered from jet lag. Amanda claims not to suffer from jet lag due to time changes of less than 5 hours, but I don’t know how. It affects me pretty strongly, and the worst is always the West to East direction. Of course, Seattle to Baltimore is only half as bad as Baltimore to London. That was completely awful, and I don’t know how so many people can do it so often. Maybe they’re like Amanda.
I was free-running for a few days, not using my checklists and so on. In fact, half the time I could barely do more than lay on the floor and take a nap. Things should be returning to normal now. I know I keep saying that, but one of these times it will be true.
I missed the last Hearty Friday, so I’ll post one soon, once again off-schedule.
Back from Seattle
I have returned from my wedding reception in Seattle, hence the hiatus. I will return to blogging shortly.
Back Stateside
I am back after a nice trip to Jamaica. I spent all day today doing laundry, and tomorrow homework is priority #1.
